A staycation and a damn deer pillow

Douglas is out of town for business this week, so it’s just been me and Ms. Nola. To hold off loneliness I thought about taking a trip to one of the nearby towns I haven’t seen yet– like Eau Claire, because I love the name– but, since Ms. Nola is a bigger bitch than Miss Daisy in a car, I changed my mind. However, there are a few awesome hotels right here in Downtown Minneapolis that allow dogs, so I packed up our various accoutrements (treats for Nola and facial masks for me) and headed to The Grand Minneapolis, a Kimpton Hotel for a staycation.

The Grand Minneapolis is actually the hotel Douglas and I stayed in on our first trip to Minneapolis– where we fell in love with the city. So, it holds a special place in our hearts. More importantly, however, it’s an amazing hotel! The decor is modern, with a funky flair, so it’s right up my alley! I got a room on the top floor with a city view, and it was perfect. My favorite thing in the room was a throw pillow:

I’m obsessed with this damn deer pillow, but I can’t find it anywhere– it’s not even for sale on Kimpton’s site (even though they said it was, but okay). In any event, it got me thinking about my throw pillow obsession more generally. I have about 2 pillows for every 50 square feet of our apartment. It’s ridiculous, but I can’t help myself. My favorite throw pillows have come from CB2 and Dot & Bo:

So clearly I’m into geometric patterns– they add a certain sense of controlled chaos to my home, which I like. But these pillows, like Hilary Duff, are so yesterday. Here’s what I’ve got my eye on right now:

The Blaney pillow from CB2 fits right in with the family! It’s very similar to a couple of pillows I already have (see above), but it’s rockin’ that metallic look that’s so hot right now.  What I really like about this pillow is that it, with it’s earthen tones, would fit in with pretty much any color palette. No need to change up your entire house for one pillow (which is totally something I would do)!

If I can’t have that damn deer pillow from Kimpton, then this is the next best thing. The Great Outdoors pillow from Dot & Bo plays homage to the Minnesota rustic that’s been popping up in my apartment, but stays true to that modern geometric look that dominates my style. ikat-aqua-36x16-pillow

And, finally, the  Ikat pillow from CB2 is the most perfect color of aqua ever. I just want to get naked and roll around in it! Or maybe just display it on a chair!

So, that is what’s on my mind right now. Pillows. Damn deer pillows. What’s your throw pillow style? Are you into hipstery deer pillows like me? Or do you settle for the more traditional? Do you think I have too many throw pillows? Oh yeah? Well, it’s none of your damn business anyway.

Seriously, though, I like throw pillows. And Ms. Nola likes Busy Bones.

Just bought some new bedding and pillows this weekend. I bought a pillow with words on it…yes I never thought about buying one before but I loved it. It is yellow and in pretty white embroidery it says ‘Enjoy the small things’. I love the geometric pillows and especially the deer pillow! I want one too!!!!!!
